EARTHQUAKE APPEAL

We want to support the emergency relief work following the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

We have identified the Christian aid agency, GAIN (Global Aid Network), with whom we want to channel our support.  We are inviting you to take part in this support this Sunday when you can give cash / cheques in a special Earthquake Appeal.  From today you can also give a donation directly through the Coastlands bank account.  Gift Aid will be added to all donations that qualify.  Items of clothing / bedding and toiletries will also be collected - see more info below.

The devastating earthquake that has crushed thousands and left tens of thousands homeless in freezing conditions in southern Turkey and Syria was centered on Antakya.

In the Bible this city was called Antioch and was very significant in God's purposes - the first multi-cultural church, the first place that believers were called Christians and the outreach base for Paul and Barnabas's church planting team. And now its in ruins. We Christians want to show our love for this significant place, and the desperate people who now live there and in the refugee camps in neighboring war torn Syria. So many lives have been shattered. We will pray for them on Sunday.

We are partnering again with GAIN, a network of European Christian relief groups who took our collection of hygiene and sanitary products out to Ukraine last February. Like last time you can give a gift of money  The money will go to buy tents and food. There will be an offering box at church on Sunday for cash or cheques (payable to Coastlands Community Church), or you can make an online bank transfer to these details:

Coastlands Community Church
Account: 44984561  Sort Code: 60-05-33
Reference: Earthquake.

Or you might be able to give some warm clothes - see the list below, or the other items also needed. Please read the check list carefully, we can't take any old thing; its going in Jesus name, and he doesn't give jumble!

As time is of the essence please bring what ever you have on Sunday, or drop it off at my home (98 Kirby Road, Walton) or Mark & Sarah's home (32 Hall Lane, Walton) . The hope is to get it on a plane to Turkey on Tuesday or Wednesday next week. If you belong to a group who you think might also like to support this please pass it on.

Lord Jesus, help us to be your hands and feet in this tragedy. Amen
